History of Pritchard: A Legacy of Excellence

Since Pritchard opened our doors in downtown Winnipeg in 1923, we have stood for value, quality, integrity and trust.

While our efforts originally focused on meeting the growing demands for custom machining and metal fabrication for everything from mines and construction equipment to smaller local businesses, our services quickly grew and diversified to include engine sales and service as well. In 1958 we became the first distributor of Deutz diesel engines in Canada.

By the late 1960s Pritchard had experienced significant growth. We built a new, larger facility on Bannister Road in Winnipeg’s northwest to house the hydraulic and engine business. This plant was expanded in 1973 to include all of the company’s operations. Our continued expansion into the market of diesel engines facilitated such rapid growth that by 1974 additional space was leased across the road from the Bannister plant to facilitate continued growth of our engine service and overhaul capabilities.

Our service offerings continued to grow and expand, and by the 1980s we were offering building diesel and natural gas powered generators as well as hydraulic systems. It was at this time Pritchard made the decision to divisionalize. This decision allowed each division to concentrate on building their experience and service offerings within their individual areas of expertise.

In 1989 to meet the needs of the business as it grew, the company acquired an existing building at 100 Otter St. to house the Dieseltech and Pritchard Industrial Divisions as well as Administration. Pritchard acquired Metalfab in the early 1990s, enabling us to expand our service offerings to include metal fabrication, subassemblies and production manufacturing.

Today, Pritchard’s six divisions proudly service Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario. As an authorized Kohler Power Systems dealer, we have expanded those services to include Southern Ontario as well.
